It seems only last week that I was announcing the opening of the Bowling Green with Crediton President, Mark Theedom, rolling up the first bowl of the season but here we are in the middle of October already. The weather and COVID still presented many challenges for the 2021 season but in amongst all this there were plenty of successes to report. Our photo shows Trevor Newbery, Robin Scott and Muriel Scott who became our latest County champions winning the Mixed Triples event otherwise known as the Burma Star competition.

Half a season of the Exeter Triples Over 60s League was played with the A team winning League One, the B team runners up in League 2 and the C team unfortunately winning the wooden spoon! The final full weekend of the season saw many of the Club competitions reaching a conclusion with Rob Paxton and Liz Smerdon topping the awards. A full list of the competition results is as follows:
Men’s Championship winner Rob Paxton. Runner Up Roy Andrews
Men’s Handicap winner. Rob Paxton. Runner Up Dave Carpenter
Men’s Three Woods winner. Rob Paxton. Runner Up Roy Andrews
Men’s Two Woods winner. Trevor Newbery Runner Up Mark Theedom
Men’s Non Cup winner. Allan Gibb. Runner Up Alex Simpson
Men’s Pairs winners Richard Gunn and Roy Andrews
Ladies Championship winner Liz Smerdon. Runner Up Christine Marshall
Ladies Handicap winner Amy Simpson Runner Up Helen Ellis
Ladies Two Woods winner Liz Smerdon. Runner Up Amy Simpson
Ladies Non Cup winner. Marilyn Carpenter. Runner Up Alison Blackburn
Ladies Pairs winners Amy Simpson and Christine Marshall.

Presentation night is Saturday 20th November but for now the green has been put to bed for the winter. The final roll up of the season had to be cancelled due to the foul weather but the tea and drinks social still took place. The Bowling Club will be busy during the winter months as there is a skittle league taking place every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and then on Friday evenings it is the Club social evening where it might be bingo, a quiz or even a horse racing evening taking place.
But for now, as with the cricket, I’m signing off until British Summer Time resumes and outdoor summer sport can restart.
