FULL WEEKS OF FIXTURES

June 21st was the official start of fixtures including friendlies and the bowling green will continue to look busier than ever. By the time you are reading this article there will have been 4 matches played and a Section 4 ladies competition played over 2 days!

This past week there have been victories for the Bond brothers and Messrs Andrews and Thomas in the Men’s County Pairs but this has been countered by losses for Messrs Tapp and Reynolds, Wollacott and Haywood, Chamberlain and Ellis and Ayley and Paxton. In the Champion of Champions competition Rob Paxton defeated Rob Ayley and now awaits confirmation of his next opponent. In the Men’s County Triples both Crediton teams of Andrews, Tapp, Reynolds and Simpson, Newberry and Thomas were victorious. In the County Non-badged Pairs Alex Simpson and Allan Gibb have progressed to the next round. In a strange competition called Foxlands Crediton won against Exonia. 1 team of 4 plays at home while the other team plays away. Crediton’s travelling four of Theedom, Newberry, Thomas and Andrews lost by 7 but with the home team of Bond, Reynolds, Tapp and Cookson triumphing by 12 shots the overall win was by 5 shots.

In the County Mixed Triples Jenny Newberry, Chris Bond and Rob Paxton have won through to the next round. In the EDL Mixed Triple League there were wins for the ‘A’ team against Exonia and the ‘C’ team against Topsham but the ‘B’ team suffered a defeat at the hands of North Tawton.

A busy week for the ladies too. In the Women’s National Top Club where the four disciplines of singles, pairs, triples and fours are all played Crediton overcame Barnstaple 3 - 1 and will now play Barnstaple United Services in the next round. In the County Fours Amy Simpson, Muriel Scott, Joan Martin and Liz Smerdon beat a Topsham team in the Section Final and will now play the winners of Section 2 at Topsham on 26th July. In the County Over 55 Pairs the competition took place over 2 days on the Crediton Green. After 4 rounds Joan Martin and Liz Smerdon defeated a pair from Topsham in the final and go through to the next round as winners of the section. Not such good news in the Grace Matthews Top Club tournament where Crediton have bowed out to Topsham.
