Crediton was honoured to host many Devon bowlers in a game on Monday July 19th. The game was fought in searing temperatures, touching 29 degrees heat. Bowlers are hardy folk and soldiered on through the heat of the day to play 6 rinks of 21 ends, with Bowls Devon coming out the victors in the score, but everyone feeling they had achieved by enduring the weather conditions!

The ladies at the club put on a very tasty, traditional bowlers tea at half time of sandwiches, pasties, sausage rolls, Devon scones and cream (cream underneath the jam), and beautiful home made cakes.

We also hosted other clubs from Ottery St Mary, St Thomas, Oreston, Morchard Bishop and North Tawton, who sent a rink to play for each side. It was a good gathering of Devon players.

Following the lifting of restrictions on Covid, everyone was relieved to be together and feeling like we were on the way to some sort of semblance of going back to normal.

In her speech Christine Marshall, the Bowls Devon Ladies President remarked that there were 8 past Bowls Devon Presidents and one past Bowls England President at the game, which was an honour for her Crediton club.

Everyone enjoyed the day and it was lovely to socialise as normal after the game in the bar.
